Reflections on changing my lifestyle and focusing on my health & wellness!

My Wellness Philosophy
A “wellness philosophy” is deeply personal and differs from person to person. Here’s what works for me: focusing on whole, one-ingredient foods, consistently move my body in a way that works for me, and find ways to slow down and manage stress.
I feel my best when I avoid gluten, dairy, and refined sugar. If I do opt for foods that are minimally processed, I make sure that the ingredient list is short and contains ingredients that aren’t inflammatory.
I’ve found that for me, low-impact movement is best. This looks like lots of walking and sculpt workout classes or hot yoga.
What I Eat in a Typical Day
While every day may look different, the same structure and routines are in place to help keep things simple!
Breakfast
I genuinely look forward to my mornings and breakfast is a big part of that. What has worked for me is finding a balanced breakfast that I not only love but also keeps me satisfied until lunch. My go-to lately has been two egg whites & one egg scrambled, a siete almond flour tortilla, avocado, and strawberries.
It never misses, is delicious, and keeps me full!
Lunch
This is a meal that changes more often but within a rotation of foods:
- Albacore tuna in water, avocado oil mayo, avocado, siete tortilla, apple slices
- Leftovers from dinner (always a protein, veggie, and carb)
Simple and again, always balanced!
Snack
For an afternoon snack, I almost always reach for about 150-175g of apple slices and 1 tbsp of peanut butter.
Dinner
At the grocery store, we typically grab the same proteins, veggies, and carbs and mix and match them throughout the week.
- Protein: Ground beef, ground turkey or chicken, chicken thighs, salmon
- Veggies: Frozen broccoli florets, zucchini, summer squash, asparagus, peas
- Carbs: Sweet Potato, Yukon Potato, Long Grain White Rice
Sweet Treat
Our yummy and clean sweet treat go-to is pitted dates with peanut butter and chocolate chips with some maldon sea salt!
How I Move
My Daily Movement Routine
My movement has changed drastically since losing almost 50 pounds, and I’ve recently realized that what got me to this point won’t be what gets me to my end goal – which is okay!
My routine has mostly consisted of prioritizing walking about 10,000 steps (sometimes more, sometimes less) a day. My goal is that my weekly average is a minimum of 10,000 steps. Walking has been an incredible support on this journey, not only for my physical health but also my mental health. Walking is a great form of low, impact movement that is sustainable for anyone, but can especially move the needle for those trying to lose weight.
Now, I have about 6% more body fat I want to lose, so I recently added 2-3x a week sculpt classes and 2-3x strength training per week, with one recovery day. As I mentioned, I know now that I need to add in some more targeted movement and strength training as I focus on body recomposition.
What I’m Still Working On
My path hasn’t been easy or linear – but I will say that the formula is simple. Currently, I’m working on understanding that this last part of my journey may be slower than the first 47 pounds while also appreciating how far I have come.
I’m excited to keep pushing myself to be my best self and documenting it along the way!
